Caligo Safe Wash Inks
Available in two ranges:
1) Caligo Safe Wash ETCHING INKS
2) Caligo Safe Wash RELIEF INKS
Overview
Our Safe Wash Inks are oil-based but can be washed up with just soap and water, without the need for solvents. Because they are made with oil, they handle and feel like traditiional inks. However, you will find that you don't need to damp your paper for as long or as much as for traditional oil-based inks. We recommend you print on lightly damp (or even dry paper). Modifying Caligo Safe Wash Inks
As these inks are oil-based, you can use many of the modifiers used with traditional inks. For example you can use:
- Magnesium Carbonate or Talc to add stiffness
- Cobalt or Manganese Driers to speed up drying
- Easy Wipe or Gel Reducer to make wiping easier, reduce tack and improve ink transfer on difficult papers.
The only special modifier you will need is Caligo Safe Wash Oil:

Caligo Safe Wash Oil ( WTC 83948)
This is our own washable oil that you can add to any ink from the Safe Wash Range
(ETCHING or RELIEF) range when you need to thin your ink a little. It's made with polymerised linseed oil and like the inks, we've made it washable. It has a viscosity of about 30 poise (similar to the consistency of a medium-bodied varnish or copper plate oil)
